My job has given me a shift that is “on call”.
I feel like they are making me set aside time out of the day for work, and then they might not pay me. I think that is bullsh*t! how do I get out of it without sounding as ignorant as this rant?

get another job – if you were hired and this was part of it – you are stuck with it

Get another job. This is part of your job duties. If you had questions about it then you should have asked in the interview. Sorry

If it’s part of your job you have to do it. But many jobs will have oncall as something they pay you for. You should ask to make sure but you had best understand that if you don’t show up when called when you’re on call then you can be fired without being able to get anything between jobs. Trying looking for a different job, or talking to your boss about a different job at the same place.

You’re right. Find another job fast. They could call you in and when you get there tell you they don’t need you – it’s happened before and gas is too expensive for that.
